Elena
Ryazanoff
was born into a family of artists and intellects in Moscow. From a very
young age she received formal education in the arts, culminating with
a degree from the famous Sourikov Academy of Fine Arts in Moscow. The
scale and broad sweep of Russian art served as the basis for Elena's
learning. Living in Moscow unveiled, for Elena, a hyper real world full
of the play and smell of paints, and of the tall, quiet galleries which
housed both large and small exhibitions. It was there that she took
up a brush for the first time, and where she experienced initial success.
In 1991, Elena came to Australia, eventually settling in Melbourne on
the Mornington Peninsula. The subsequent changes in her life are reflected
in her paintings and have raised her art to a new creative level.
Painting full time, Elena has combined patience, purposefulness and
enormous enthusiasm which has placed her in the company of many, more
talented and popular artists of our time.
The unique techniques she employs and the imaginative way she applies
these, demonstrate a raised spiritual nature which bewitches the viewer
and speaks of her exceptional abilities.
Critics respond to her creations in different ways, which simply confirms
the unique skills and popularity of this artist. Polarisation of opinion
occurs only where symbols reveal the truth. Lena's pictures reflect
a deeply philosophical religion. They contain representations of possession
and faith, expressions of feeling and profound peace, love and hope.
They are a balm for hurt, sadness and pain. They call for rebirth, teaching
us to live in harmony with the world, and that happiness and joy are
our birthright.
Standing
in front of one of Elena's paintings is to experience the physical sensation
of the spirit being lifted, of feeling the easy movement of the air,
the caress of the sun and the promise of freedom. If you wonder how
and why these experiences occur, remember that the daubed emanations
of all great artists actually convey heightened sensations and joy of
creation.
